So Where Is Your God Now?

I have to admit that I was actually surprised at how many times I heard that question said aloud while my husband was sick and again after he died.  For every person who did say it to us, I can’t imagine how many more thought it.  There seems to be a perception in the world that if God does not provide exactly what we want when we want it, then God is not answering prayer.  He may not even be hearing prayer.  He may not even be around.

One option to our prayers for Taylor was perfect healing.  Our God is absolutely capable of that.  He could have healed Taylor at any time He choose.  Or He could have chosen a different path and outcome, which He did.  Do you remember Jesus praying on the Mount of Olives?

Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.  Luke 22:42

Prayer is asking God to align me with His will.  It is not asking Him to be aligned with mine.   Please read that again.  Prayer is asking God to align me with His will.  It is not asking Him to be aligned with my will.  Our God is not a Genie granting wishes or a short order cook taking custom requests.  In the following verse, an angel appeared to Him and strengthened Him.  God’s will did not change but He provided the strength needed for His child to persevere.

Thinking of God as Father – How many of you have children? How many of you give your child everything they ask for right when they ask? If you have multiple children, then you know that sometimes what is best for the family may not be the first choice for one or more of the children.  Don’t forget we are part of a large family.

Now if we are children, then we are heirs – heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ if indeed we share in his suffering in order that we may also share in his glory.  Rom 8:17

God takes care of His entire family.

All things work for good for those who love God and are called according to His purposes.  Rom 8:28

ALL THINGS, even the difficult ones.
